A little behind on my blog posts and photos. A lot has happened since the last post but i’d rather not get into the details. Let’s just say it’s all good I took the below photos about 6 months ago. My former personal trainer was competing for the title of Mr Singapore again (he won on 2006 and 2011 again – Congrats Adrian!) so I was happy to photograph something which was not the norm that I’m used to. The 70-200mm is a great lens, if only it wouldn’t cost so much I spent the whole day using it and loved every bit of it! And no, I still haven’t bought myself one so far, surprising eh?

Sophie’s world!

A little behind in my blog posts. I took some photos of Sophie – beautiful girl and extremely smart. I’ve kinda watched Sophie grow up via photo postings done by her dad (En-Lai) on Facebook. So one day I thought i’d ask if he was keen to have some photos of the kid and we headed for Botanic Gardens with a huge bubble wand (which she went crazy!) and a beautiful dog named Leia (I wanted a dog like her so much after that!).

Clumsy

I don’t deny that I’m clumsy, in fact extremely clumsy at times. I would walk happily and trip few minutes later. Given my size, it doesn’t improve my clumsiness one bit. So now that I’m pumped and back in the groove of things when it comes to photographing my toys, this happens …

Arghh, I was busy spring cleaning the study room cum studio of mine and I sat on the chair, rolled it backwards, forgetting that my camera is mounted on the tripod with the lens and it went timberrrrrrr. I’m obviously pissed at my clumsiness but I’m also so damn thankful it wasn’t my 24-70mm f2.8 lens because if that happened, I’m soooooo screwed!

So it looks like I’ll have to buy another 50mm f1.8 or give it a skip and go for something else. This is one of the best and most useful/value lenses I’ve seen so far so I guess there’s no harm getting a replacement. It’s also quite strange that the 50mm f1.8 also feels a bit like a toy lens rather than a real lens, but that’s just because it’s very light versus the rest of them. I think it’s around S$300? Money out of the pocket again …

Random Observation: Guys & their girls

Random observation: Have you ever felt like the guy behind where the girl of your dreams decides to ‘entertain’ another guy who is … not-so-tall/dark/handsome as you?

Took this last night while waiting for the bumblebee to be assembled. The position of the ‘sad’ trooper behind isn’t that ideal but I guess the emotion/body language exhibits it? I can’t remember why I placed the other mini trooper there – moral support for the other mini perhaps?

They are back!

After a long hiatus, I decided to bring my toys out again. Getting really rusty as I struggled to set up. This set took me ages to setup. Firstly, the bumblebee took me close to an hour to fix/transform, I gave up halfway and asked hubby to help me fix it (he struggled too, hahaha!) — explains why girls don’t play with toys which require assembly! I almost broke the car because I was trying to force my way … that would not have been funny on the hubby’s face!

Not exactly perfect in terms of lighting and I think my wallpaper is fading and the set seems to be crumbling. Oh well.

I had the opportunity to photograph my friend’s twin boys who are 3 months old. She’s my sister’s schoolmate and saw that I took photographs and asked if I wanted to experiment with her 2 boys. I jumped at the opportunity since I’ve never done any baby photography. I couldn’t sleep the night before and was busy scouring the net for inspirations. Given that the boys were 3 months old, I naturally found out through various google entries that it was also the most difficult age to photograph them as they begin to be able to lift their head, move their hands/feet etc. And I also learnt that the “best age” to photograph babies were in their first 10-12 days fresh from birth because that’s when they would just fall into deep sleep and let you do whatever you want with them.

Not deterred, I brought some props over and just as I was running down the stairs of my home, I found that we had 2 baskets, so I grabbed those as a last minute inspiration kicked in. I’m so glad I brought them! The boys are just beautiful and their eyes are so big and round. Matthieu was very responsive to the camera while Stephane threw some mini tantrums towards later of the day — guess he was tired and that the clicking sound didn’t help sooth/calm him. Maybe I should buy those elephant/beany thingy where you put it in front of the camera lens to attract their attention.

{Ee-va & Edwin} – JSP Inside Out Workshop – Part 2

This is the second series to the JSP Inside Out workshop (see part 1 here) featuring another couple which we’ve had the opportunity to shoot in the early morning last Saturday. Jenny was showing us how she sets up the details and take pictures of the couple. Most amazing thing which I’ve noticed is that Jenny is continuously talking to the couple and that i’m sure helps to calm alot of nerves! I was quiet at one point but realised I needed to talk to the couple in order to get more in between moment shots. Jenny works the camera amazingly and I’ve never seen any photographer who communicates so well with their subject! I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

Now I know why photographers love to photograph weddings. There’s an element of romance and emotion to it that if you capture it correctly in your photos, you only need to let the picture do the talking. This couple was very bubbly and vivacious — Ee-va was just great in front of the camera, so was Edwin. I wish them the very best in their marriage. Looking at all these photos, I feel like doing ANOTHER PRE-WEDDING shoot! Haha but i’m pretty sure my husband is gonna say no to that

Again, just as a note, these photos were taken as a participant as a workshop.

{Aeron & Sharon} – JSP Inside Out Workshop – Part 1

I attended the 3-day workshop titled “JSP Inside Out” hosted by none other than Jenny Sun herself here in Singapore. I had a great time meeting new people and it was a huge learning experience for me! Jenny is also awesome and super cute!

These photos were taken by me as a participant during our group assignment on our second day of the workshop. Despite the pouring rain, we all had fun. And, this is my FIRST TIME TAKING PRE-WEDDING PHOTOS!! You have no idea how fast my heart was racing when Jenny was looking through every photo submission. But awesome experience! I feel really inspired now to take more photos. I have a lot more to improve on and need a lot more practice. I really wanna go out and just keep shooting

The young couple my group was assigned to was very cute and loving! ♥ how they encourage each other during the photo session. Their love story was a cute and loving one — they started off as good friends but went their separate ways with other people, only to be reunited again as couple. It was Aeron who submitted the entry for JSP Inside out workshop and I’m pretty sure Sharon was very surprised by it as she was nervous! However, Aeron was there to calm her nerves by continuously talking to her and making her laugh, such a sweet and beautiful couple! Reminds me so much of our younger days when we first knew what falling in love was like.

The path …

Out of all the photos I took yesterday, my favourite was of Danbo that I posted last night and this photo. I uploaded this on Facebook and I said “If you’re given only one path to walk, do you take it?” and it sparked a mini debate with my ex-boss who’s a philosophical guy But yes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this photo the most. Doesn’t look like Singapore, does it?
