[SHOWCASE PART 1] Tonight with Lee Seung Gi in Malaysia
Spent the last 4 hours editing photos and I just realised that all the photos I’ve edited so far pertains to his first song! OMG, I don’t know how many parts I have to release but please bear with me. I also wish to answer some of the questions I got as to why I only took 3 photos of Seung Gi’s arrival at KLIA and only a handful at his press conference.
At KLIA, I arrived roughly an hour before he touched down. I was carrying my camera bag which weighed 9kg plus another roller bag. Whilst I hung out and waited at the luggage area with 2 other fellow Airens, I technically could have shot a few hundred photos of him while clearing immigration and chased him as he was walking out. But I decided against it when I saw him having his passport checked at the immigration. He was visibly tired from the long flight. There were also police waiting to escort him out. He also did smile and wave at the 6 of us who waited just after the immigration counter and also smiled directly at the camera as I took the 2 shots as seen here in my earlier post. To be honest, I don’t like taking photos of artist when they look tired and I’m sure he/any artist would feel the same. Furthermore, I was holding a telephoto lens, a long one which I feel can be quite “in-your-face” especially at a close distance. That’s when I thought, ok, time to step back.
Most people who have seen my photos in the past of Seung Gi would remember the photos I took of him at the Singapore press conference (Part 1 and Part 2). Whilst I would have loved to replicate such a feat again, unfortunately it was not possible to do so in Malaysia for a few reasons. The press conference was too short in my opinion and from the moment Seung Gi entered, the media went into a frenzy with flashes going off everywhere. It was almost like a scene at the Oscars red carpet awards. When the Q&A (by the MC) was over, she then announced it was the last photo taking opportunity and that was when the media went into another frenzy. I was climbing chairs after chairs to get a good shots of him but decided to give up because there was no room to get any. Dissapointed, I told myself I still have the showcase to take, so I need to better prepare myself.
At the showcase, when Seung Gi emerged in the dark with his dancers, I held the camera up to prepare myself, took about 30 shots before I stopped to check my LCD. I smiled and was extremely happy. I then tweeted in excitement “I LOVE YOU KENANGA!!! YOU GIVE ME THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LIGHTING TO TAKE MY KING!! #lsgmsiafm“. The rest as they say, is history. I shall stop talking now and leave you with some of my favourites from the first part.
